Welcome!

This website showcases work created by students in Prof. Michael Cardinali’s photo bookmaking class (ARTS 651) at the University of New Hampshire during the Spring 2018 semester. Each student created three handmade photo books, and all collaborated on the creation of a class book (see below). Students were challenged to take photographs that could be arranged into a compelling sequence in book format. The resulting books were all handmade, which gave students the opportunity to experiment with multiple binding techniques and layout designs. Students spent the semester learning skills through a series of critiques and workshops, and ended the class with both physical and digital representations of their work.

Class Photobook  |  Middle Ground

MIDDLEGROUND describes the creative process used to make this book and the overarching theme throughout the photographs. This collection is the result of hours spent piecing together the works of 15 very different artists to produce a cohesive spread of prints. In addition, within each photograph lives a middle ground, a meeting of light and time.
